Stable performance after earthquake test

To meet the stringent demands required for the nuclear power generation industry and other safety critical applications such as telecommunication relay stations and mobile phone transmission sites, a new range of EMS A.C. Voltage Stabilisers have been designed by Watford Control to provide a reliable stabilised voltage that will be able to withstand the rigors of a major seismic disturbance and still continue to function.

Based on the existing EMS series of stabilisers the new models have a specially designed welded steel frame with additional supports for the heavy internal components such as the Rotavolt assembly (continuously variable toroidal auto-trannsformers) and the buck-boost transformers, to ensure the assembly can withstand seismic testing and the stresses introduced in the event of an earthquake. . . .

In addition to the new frame all the Variable transformers and Buck-Boost transformers are constructed using class H formers and insulation for additional thermal integrity to enable the stabiliser to conform to the high level short-circuit capability required for this particular application as well as the more hostile environmental conditions experienced in these applications.
